Turkey in Tennessee

THE END RESULT

I have just returned from Tennessee and have had the most exciting time, although i don't know of many Gundogs that would be able to carry a wild turkey but i am sure plenty would try.

This is unlike any type of bird shooting that i have done before, up early every morning before daylight and then sitting on your backside for up to six hours at a time. This is a unique type of hunting because you need skilled "callers" with you to bring in these very shy and suspicious birds that have eye sights and hearing many magnitudes greater than a human.

It took me four early starts and some 26 hours in total to get my "Gobbler" but let me tell you something, the rush when you get him in your sights and have to hold position for 40-50 minutes is well worth it..............70 yards and the caller tells me "if he turns the wrong way down the track i'm gonna call and when he lifts his head......kill him".

Well i did kill a bird of 20lbs with a 10" beard and spurs of 1", apparently a 3-4 year old bird and it was well worth every moment of it!THE TEAM

I want to thank Mary Claire and Nordeck Thompson the owners of RoundcoveLodge and Keaton and Walter Krauth who put in immense time and effort to make sure the week long stay went smoothly. The food and accomodation were second to none and it's something that i will be looking forward to experiencing again soon!!
